Thyroid Associated Conditions

No system in the body works alone and the thyroid is no exception. Because of this if your thyroid isn't working properly other systems may be out of balance as well. This is one reason why symptoms may overlap between thyroid disorders and other conditions. Your thyroid gland is part of the endocrine system - a system of glands that controls bodily functions via hormones. This page lays out other systems that may be affected alongside thyroid disease. It's not exhaustive but it's a place for you to start thinking about associated conditions and your overall health.

Sex hormone imbalances may yield symptoms

The liver is largely responsible for T4 to T3  conversion & removal of excess hormone

Auto-immune conditions are responsible for
~90% thyroid disorders & some related diseases

Stress stimulates the adrenal glands to produce cortisol - too much or little can yield hypothyroid symptoms

Digestive disorders are known to be linked to autoimmune disease in susceptible individuals
