Diagnosed & Still Suffering?

You've been diagnosed with a thyroid disorder. You're on thyroid medication. Your test results may be 'in range'. You still feel ill. You are not alone.

Some patients claim they don't respond well to synthetic thyroxine replacement therapy as a treatment for low active thyroid. In some cases this may be due to T4 to T3 conversion problems originating in the liver*. If you're on synthetic thyroxine & still have symptoms you're entitled to be referred to an endocrinologist under NHS guidelines**. Some patients feel they do better on desiccated thyroid hormones; however, this is based on anecdotal evidence and clinical trials have not shown any benefit over the biosynthetic forms.***
