Nourish Your Sex Hormones

Oestrogen imbalances exist where the levels of sex hormones oestradiol, oestrone, oestriol and progesterone fall out of balance. This may be due to hormonal changes (puberty, pregancy, menopause, peri-menopause) and/or digestive imbalances* where oestrogen is reabsorbed into the bloodstream from the liver.

Both may lead to hypothyroid symptoms where excess oestrogen blocks the thyroid hormone receptor sites and may interfere with normal metabolic function.  Oestrogen imbalances have many symptoms but a healthy digestion combined with good diet, increased intake of B vitamins and essential fats may help rebalance your hormones.

That said, it's worth testing your sex hormone balance to see if whether an oestrogen imbalance might be causing your symptoms.

* One of the enzymes in the GI tract - beta glucuronidase - can reactivate oestrogen that has been metabolised by the liver. This metabolised

oestrogen is normally excreted but if there is excess beta glucuronidase oestrogen can be reabsorbed from the liver into the bloodstream.
